Xbox Game Pass Members Can Still Get Day-One Releases for Under $30 Per Month
Following Microsoft's latest declaration of an extensive restructuring of its Game Pass plans, the tech giant has clarified what these changes signify for players who still have an Xbox Game Pass for Console active. According to Xbox, subscribers who presently maintains a grandfathered Console subscription with automatic billing enabled will remain unaffected by the updated cost changes.
Latest Changes to Xbox Game Pass Subscription Plans
Earlier this week, Xbox revealed that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will be priced at $29.99 per month, a controversial move among subscribers. The update comes with two renamed tiers—Essential and Premium—which modify the service's offerings and exclude new titles at launch. This shift came after another adjustment in 2024, which phased out the Console plan in exchange for Core and Standard tiers. Back then, Xbox permitted existing Console subscribers to keep their membership at the unchanged price of $11 per month with full benefits, such as access to games on launch day.
“Players who are presently subscribed to the Console plan and have recurring billing enabled can maintain their subscription,” a representative stated. “If users turn off recurring payments, or their membership expires, they will have to choose between Essential, Premium, Ultimate or PC Game Pass plans when rejoining.”
Perks and Costs Stay the Same
The perks and monthly fee of the legacy subscription will remain the same, as confirmed by Xbox: “Day one games are available with Game Pass Ultimate and PC subscriptions, as well as for members who still have an active Console subscription. Gamers who are currently subscribed to Xbox Game Pass for Console and have recurring billing turned on can keep their subscription at $10.99 per month.”
Upon inquiry, a company representative declined to specify how long legacy Console subscriptions will stay available for existing members.
How to Check If You Are On a Legacy Subscription
- Go to the Game Pass website and log in with your Xbox account.
- Select your username in the top right corner of the screen once signed in.
- Choose “My Microsoft Account.”
- If you see “Xbox Game Pass for Console” listed as an active subscription, you can still get new releases for $11 a month as long as recurring payments are turned on.
Be sure to check if you hold this golden ticket before ending your membership, as it will be impossible to rejoin the plan once you opt out.
