The Video Platform Offers Viewers Power to Reduce AI-Generated Videos in Timelines

Users will soon have a fresh option that enables them to cut down on the volume of AI-created content appearing in their feeds. This move comes as the platform disclosed that it currently hosts in excess of 1 billion content made with AI.

Trial and Implementation

The update is undergoing trials over the next few weeks before a global release. This shift aligns with a surge in AI-generated material, spurred by new video-generation tools.

AI Content on Other Platforms

It has been noted that approximately one in 10 of the most rapidly expanding video streams on a popular video site exclusively feature clips produced artificially. A significant portion of this material is considered mass-produced AI material, a phrase for poor-quality, bulk-generated content that is frequently nonsensical or bizarre.

Our research shows that numerous viewers enjoy content made with AI tools, from digital art to educational videos, and we aim to offer the community the option to increase or decrease of that, depending on their own preferences,” commented a company executive.

Scale of AI Content

The service shared that there are currently over a billion videos on its network tagged as AI-generated. In total, in excess of 100 million media items are uploaded to the service every day, making AI content a minor part of its complete catalog.

User Control Features

Viewers will be in a position to limit or boost the level of AI-generated videos they watch by using the topic control feature in the platform and selecting the AI content topic. Further subjects that can already be adjusted under the tool include current affairs, style, beauty, and choreography.

Content Labeling and Policies

The platform’s rules mandate content makers to label lifelike artificially created content, and it prohibits malicious AI impersonations of celebrities or critical incidents. Any believable AI-generated clip that is without a tag can be removed under its community policies.

Furthermore, the app will now apply an AI-generated tag to content created with its own AI tools, or flagged by an industry-wide initiative for recognizing AI-generated material. This step is aimed to deter users from seeking to evade the labeling process.

Responsible AI Funding

The company is also launching a $2 million educational fund for professionals and groups to create informative material about using AI responsibly. This program will support non-profit groups specializing in teaching coding and technology.

Platform Protection

TikTok has justified its safety measures, amid controversy over plans to lay off hundreds of content moderators in the UK. TikTok is set to reduce 439 jobs in its user protection team in London, with trade unions and digital protection specialists expressing worry that people are being substituted by AI moderation.

A trust and safety lead stated that staff-based oversight would continue to be important, but artificial intelligence can shield workers by filtering out the most graphic content before it has to be seen by staff. The platform stated a notable drop in disturbing and violent content seen by safety staff over the last 12 months due to the use of its machine learning processes.

We believe it is crucial to integrate people and machines to maintain a secure environment,” the official commented. “We’ll have humans as part of that process, but we additionally believe it’s very important to reduce exposure to unsafe media as quickly as possible, which is why a lot of the machine support is making a difference work at speed.”
