Arsenal's manager feels assured that his side can persist in handling with fitness issues following confirming that star striker Kai Havertz remains out for a few more weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for German Star

The Germany international has been out since August after undergoing knee surgery. Initially expected to come back earlier in December, Arteta explained the player faced a hurdle when advancing his recovery and was unable to move forward “the next phase.”

“We learned, and we were able to put together a group that is considerably steadier and has more options,” commented Arteta.

Tactical Decisions for Midweek Fixture

This development presents a selection headache for Wednesday’s home game against Brentford. Arteta must choose between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who scored playing out of position last weekend, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return after a fitness issue as a substitute. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus is also an option following a lengthy absence.

Defensive Concerns Remain

Further fitness issues surround defender William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who sat out the weekend encounter. As a result, new recruits Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are likely to keep their places in the heart of the defence for the table-toppers.

Arteta feels the significant outlay on reinforcements ahead of this season has resulted in a more robust situation to deal with such unavailability.

Greater Options Key to Premier League Pursuit

When asked if more options was aiding their title quest, his response was positive. “Absolutely, because this season has presented greater challenges in certain positions, and now what’s happening with the backline,” he added.

“We learned from the past that we must deploy players in different positions, and they need to be prepared to adapt to new tasks if we aim to challenge at the top. And the example of Mikel is just the best one.”

Arteta's Support for Suffering Star

Addressing the delay noted by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave further detail. “His recovery was progressing. He failed to advance to the required step and now it’s looking like we have solved that issue.”

Arteta expressed his eagerness to see him return. “We’re all desperate to have him. I mean, he is a footballer who, in my view, I love so much for what he brings to the team, but his mentality, his nature. I observe his frustration while sidelined.”

“His availability record is exceptional, he's usually fit, and I can’t wait to see him return around the team on the pitch because I believe it’s going to be a significant uplift.”
