The Red Devils produced what observers are calling a "statement" display against reigning champions Chelsea, though they were left hoping for more than the solitary point secured from the match.

United successfully end Chelsea's 100% start to the current campaign as Anna Sandberg's superb volley cancelled out the Chelsea player's brilliant opener.

The draw marked a significant achievement for the Red Devils, who had previously been defeated in ten and drawn just a single of their previous eleven league encounters with the Blues.

However, manager Marc Skinner voiced "frustration" that his side came away with only a draw rather than maximum points as they extended their undefeated streak to 5 games.

Throughout the match, Ella Toone missed chances on either side of the halftime, while teammate Jess Park should have converted with a lofted attempt before narrowly missing with a dipping volley.

Ex- England midfielder Fara Williams stated: "In my opinion Manchester United will probably be regretting missed opportunities. They generated numerous good chances and perhaps with improved composure in the attacking area, they could have come out on top."

Nevertheless, United could have just as readily walked away with nothing from the fixture.

Shot-stopper Phallon Tullis-Joyce made a excellent late save to prevent Chelsea's Keira Walsh, while the defenders Maya Le Tissier and Sandberg put their bodies on the line during the final minutes to prevent the Blues at bay.

Ex- England goalkeeper Rachel Brown-Finnis added: "They're the first team to prevent Chelsea from winning against Chelsea this season. If they need to put out a statement to their own club and reaffirm what Manchester United's aspiration is, they've deserved all that."

The next season they won the FA Cup - their first major women's trophy.

Although a draw against the present league frontrunners may be deemed a missed opportunity for United, former England striker White thought it showed how far the club has progressed.

The pundit remarked: "One must look at that steady performance. They've played 11 times against Chelsea now and only tied one time, now the second, so I think it's truly good for their consistency and what they're achieving as a organization and a team. It shows it's working and they're getting better."

Asked if Skinner deserved more credit for United's rise to compete with more established clubs, the expert added: "What he's done with these individuals, the philosophy, the DNA, how determined they are. He hasn't got the quantity of money or managed to spend the amount of money the such teams of Chelsea, Arsenal or [Manchester] City have achieved."

What Will This Impact the Championship Battle?

Chelsea's perfect beginning may have concluded, but they nonetheless stay in first place on thirteen points - two points clear of United.

But Skinner stated his team's performance at the Progress With Unity Stadium - where Chelsea clinched last season's title - proved the Blues won't have it so straightforward this time around.

He added: "It shows to Chelsea they're not simply going to run away with the league. We need to make sure everyone is providing a contest. I think the league is getting better and you saw the standard, that we are progressing as well."

Blues manager Bompastor was "not happy" with Chelsea's display, but stated a tie was "a decent result at Manchester United".

Questioned if United were title challengers, she added: "I see many teams being real competition for us, every game presents a distinct challenge. You have to be ready for every game."

City, who were defeated to Chelsea in the first match, could close the difference on the leaders to one point if they defeat Arsenal at home on the weekend.

Last season's second-place Arsenal, meanwhile, have ground to make up after dropping points against both United and Aston Villa, and boss Renee Slegers will be eyeing the Gunners' home game against Chelsea on November 8th as a way to get themselves back in the race.
