Around 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Police state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then located many other marked automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report early analysis show the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; officials are not yet aware of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.
City officials announced they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for details.
A senior political figure stated the incident rendered him without words and had to be solved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right attack five years ago," he stated on online, referring to the killing of nine victims by a gunman aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
